Swedish Adventures

November 10, 2008

A recent drive for organization had us visiting the Swedish mecca of Ikea this weekend. We're big fans of many Swedish things, meatballs, fish, and affordable furnishings for kids. Now that M is getting a little older, I was able to view the store as more than just somewhere to get into and out of, but as real entertainment. Indoor entertainment which is valuable in Minnesota in winter.  Read more...

Dolls, Doll Houses and Another Halloween Event

October 23, 2008

One more Halloween event to add to the list. Great Pumpkin Festival at Landmark Center in St. Paul. This Sunday the 26th from 1PM - 3 PM. A dollhouse was one of those extravagant toys that I never had as a kid, but that didn't mean I didn't want one, dream of one, plot how to get one. Instead I made them. I used cardboard boxes, and created furniture out of matchboxes, duct tape and  Read more...

Fairies, Sprites & Pixies, Oh My!

October 08, 2008

We've done princesses, pirates, and now we're giving our love to the fairies. (I'm under contractual obligations to my husband to do a ninja post next) Here are my favorite places to outfit your little mythical creature. It may comes as no surprise to you, but it is all the usual suspects here. Because of that, I'm throwing in some do it yourself ideas just to spice things up. Toy  Read more...

Halloween is coming...

October 07, 2008

...What are you going to be? Or rather, what is your favorite little goblin going to be? Other than the "No!" monster. Here are some local ideas for you to try out, and some other fun ones. Pirates, Knights, Princesses, Wizards & Dragons: Pretend play favorites are also great for costumes. Wonderment has a great pirate, knight section that can go either way for gender. They  Read more...

The Tale of the Green Dress

October 06, 2008

At M's daycare they do a lot of dress up. M loves it all, especially the green dress. Who knows how or why, but she loves that thing. They have an excellent collection there, and I'm starting to build her collection here at home using some things I've learned from them. Post Halloween sales - They have a number of the head and body costumes that I've seen in catalogs and at Target.  Read more...

Why I Love The Skyways

September 26, 2008

I've been trying to save this for winter, but I may just have to visit the topic more than once. I love the skyways in downtown Minneapolis. I work downtown, and while most days M and I take the bus, we do also occasionally drive. That means parking, and most recently it has meant parking in the ABC ramps on the west side of downtown. One of the coolest things about that area is the  Read more...

Party Anyone?

September 05, 2008

Birthday season is starting in our family, and the move up to toddlers means that M may start getting birthday invites. We still have a little over 7 months to go until I need to start having one put together, but here three area birthday party ideas. Pump It Up - There is just something about inflatable bouncy things that gets kids excited (oh, and lets face it, you wish they came  Read more...

Just Beat It (Yes, I'm that old)

July 18, 2008

All of the summer music talk has me making odd references. I realize that in another six months or so, I'm going to be begging for this. However, right now, it the heat is kind of a drag. I'm just not made for this kind of weather. Weather that involves sweaters, sure, but not this. However, I can't hide in the AC forever, so here are a few things to beat the heat. Sprinklers - I don't  Read more...

5 Things to Do on a Rainy Sick Day

June 12, 2008

The most recent batch of storms has come with a nasty little cold in our house, so not only are we dealing with a rainy day, but also not feeling well. Going out is not an option, and staying in has made everyone (especially the dog) a little crazy. Here are a few of the things we did to pass the time today. Curl up with a good movie, or in our case, a classic TV show. We limit how much  Read more...
