Pretend Play
Swedish Adventures
November 10, 2008
A recent drive for organization had us visiting the Swedish mecca of Ikea this weekend. We're big fans of many Swedish things, meatballs, fish, and affordable furnishings for kids. Now that M is getting a little older, I was able to view the store as more than just somewhere to get into and out of, but as real entertainment. Indoor entertainment which is valuable in Minnesota in winter. Read more...

Of Princesses and Knights
October 22, 2008
I've recently outed myself as an even bigger geek. (as if that was possible) I married a gamer. That means that I am surrounded by numerous items of fantasy. I'm not complaining. As a kid I always loved the wonderful escape of tales ofchivalry , princesses, and wizards. I know that both A and are hoping that M shares the love. If she does, I know exactly where we're taking her to outfit Read more...
The Tale of the Green Dress
October 06, 2008
At M's daycare they do a lot of dress up. M loves it all, especially the green dress. Who knows how or why, but she loves that thing. They have an excellent collection there, and I'm starting to build her collection here at home using some things I've learned from them. Post Halloween sales - They have a number of the head and body costumes that I've seen in catalogs and at Target. Read more...
Kiddywampus: More than toys for kids of every age.
September 24, 2008
One of the best parts about writing for Savvy Source is that I get to actively seek out cool things around the TC. I scrounge websites, I look to see what other people are talking about, and then I try to check it out for myself. When I was just getting started, I went to a neat toy store I had heard about called Kiddywampus . The first thing I had found about them was their Action Read more...
Pretend Play (or how I get the laundry done)
September 08, 2008
M has started to pretend more and more, so we're going along with her. It has turned into a fun game, and we're all learning something new, especially M. Here are some cheap and fun ways to play pretend, without having to invest in a big tea set or a kitchen. Boxes - We've started a collection of boxes for M to play with. From mac & cheese, to shoe boxes. She's started cooking Read more...
Sharing The Kitchen
September 04, 2008
At the national blog today, they're talking about toys that are good for sharing. The one that always comes to mind for me is the little kitchen at M's daycare. We regularly get reports that M cooked up something and shared bites with her friends, so we know it must be working. We even think that if we can find a space, we're getting her a kitchen for the holidays. Here are some great Read more...
Packing It Up
July 30, 2008
After doing our best to pack as much summer as possible into the last few weekends, we're running out of steam at our house. Combine that with a new daycare/preschool, and we're beat. So, I'm back to focusing on things you can do at home. Good news is that since it is going to be hotter than heck this weekend with an added bonus of air quality alerts, that might be the best idea yet. My Read more...
