Finding the Gift

December 04, 2008

While some people may see the current economy as a limit to their holiday shopping, I see it as a challenge to find the perfect gift. It would be wonderful if there was such a thing as the perfect gift, but then again there are kids who are more excited about the box the toy came in. So instead of just another list of toys, I'm giving you the list of my favorite types of gifts to fit every  Read more...

Today I am a Monkey

October 17, 2008

Everyone knows that kids have an amazing connection to animals. So much so, they may take to trying to mix a dish in the dog's food bowl. Oh wait, that was just my kid? Good thing the dog is on a diet so her dish is almost always empty. Since M's mastered her monkey and cow, and is working on her kitty cat, bird, and horse. When she gets older, we can take it one step further, and act  Read more...

Minnetonka Orchards - An Apple Review

October 02, 2008

This last weekend on Saturday morning we trekked out to the wilds of Minnetrista to visit Minnetonka Orchards. I'd seen an article about them in the Strib, and I was intrigued. I still love our little Applewood Orchard , but I wanted to see what agritainment was really. The drive was beautiful. In case you haven't noticed the leaves are actually starting to turn around here, and it is  Read more...

Things To Do - Last Weekend Of September

September 25, 2008

The weather is looking good for now, so here are a few things to do this weekend, both inside and out. Family Fiesta at the Minnesota Zoo - Fall festival with a little Latin spice. There is dancing, crafts and food. Anything at the zoo is a good time. Minnesota Landscape Arboretum - Fall season officially kicks off at the Arboretum this weekend. While the activities are geared more  Read more...

A Fair Affair

August 25, 2008

There is something quintessentially Minnesotan about our State Fair. Getting There: I don't understand the people why go through the hassle of the parking lots. I also think that with kids, riding one of the buses from the burbs is not the best idea. The happy medium is parking at one of the local park & ride lots (most in Roseville) and taking the free shuttle to the fair.  Read more...

Baby Marine Mammals

August 21, 2008

Leave it to me to write about the dolphins and they they go off and breed. One of the Minnesota Zoo's newest dolphins is pregnant. Due to this, and other things (like her mother seeming to act pregnant but not being pregnant), there are no more dolphin shows at the Minnesota Zoo. Good news is that you can still see them in Discovery Bay. The email I got from the zoo made it sound very iffy  Read more...

Where to See the Sea

August 19, 2008

Thanks to a number of bugs caught at daycare, the perfect timing of her ear tubes, and speech development, one of M's first words was fish. You see, they have fish at her doctor's office. It goes well with her overall love of the water. However, if you don't want to have to do a doctor visit to see your fish, here are a few places you can go instead. The Minnesota Zoo - There are two  Read more...

I'm going to the zoo, are you?

August 08, 2008

When was a kid in the sticks, the only real TV that I was allowed to watch usually involved Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, or Nature.  Good thing I loved animals.  Eventually I went to the Minnesota Zoo, Como Zoo, and even the National Zoo in Washington, DC.  I think I may have become a bit of a zoo addict.  Fortunately being a parent allows you to feed this addiction all under the guise  Read more...

Leopards, Tigers, Sea Otters, Wild Boars and Bears, Oh My!

July 21, 2008

The timing finally worked right, and we managed to get to see the new Russia's Grizzly Coast area at the Minnesota Zoo . We went early this last Saturday, before the rain hit, but while enough people were still trying to avoid the rain. The crowds were smaller, and the weather was almost pleasant (I am still not a heat and humidity gal). However, perfect timing aside, even if it had been hot and  Read more...

Leopard Is More Than a Fabric Print

July 17, 2008

Living under the sign of the big cat (Leo), I've always had a thing for cats, large and small. While M is most likely allergic to them all (like her dad), she can still enjoy the big ones, you know, from a distance. This weekend is the Amur Leopard Festival at the Minnesota Zoo. The name of the exhibit may be Russia's Grizzly Coast, but the really neat part is the leopards. They are a  Read more...

City Guide - Twin Cities - Day 3

July 10, 2008

Ok, pooped yet? Three days really isn't enough time, especially if you're traveling with children, so you have to save something for your next visit, right? Here are a few of my all time favorites places/things to do, outside of the specifically planned route. Crafty Planet - The best craft store on the whole planet. OK, that might be an exageration, but maybe only a little. While  Read more...
