The Gift You Make
December 08, 2008
Sometimes the gifts that kids make themselves are the best gifts that they can give. After all, there aren't many preschoolers with a checking account.
Paint Your Own Pottery - There are a number of places around the Twin Cities, just check out your local listings. I know they exist, but I had bad luck with google searches, since I know some that showed up have closed. If you know of good ones, please leave a comment. Kids can paint something that will last. For younger kids, hand prints are a great option.
Paint your own... - For an alternative to pottery, try local store Simply Jane Studio. You can paint anything from canvases to custom furniture. One of the best parts is that you don't have to finish it all at once.
Picture It - This year M is going to get her picture taken in Vikings cheerleader outfit (think 50's cheerleader). We're giving the picture to her grandfather in a frame that she painted. Get a simple frame from your local craft store, some washable paints, and an acrylic finishing spray to make sure it sets.
We Make You Bake - A simple search for Cookie Mixes on Google pulled up a great selection of fun recipes that you can make to give. Give kids the right size measuring cup, and create an assembly line of fun jars to fill. A wide mouth canning funnel is a great solution to make sure everything gets in the jars. Top with recipe cards backed with kid's artwork, and a spoon to stir it all up with.
Wrap it up - A basic roll of craft paper, some sponges, finger paint, or well, even a potato, and kids can make paper to wrap up all of your gifts. It provides a special touch that grandparents, teachers and family will appreciate.
